Environment Friendly Activities in TML Hospital
1. Effluent Treatment Plant(ETP)
Microalgae and waste water of hospital are collected at ETP, in which water purification is done in three stages-
a. Mechanical stage: Sewage waste water collected at ETP pit tanks.
b. The Biological stage: In this stage, the purification of sewage water is carried out by “Rotating Immersion Disks”.
c. Settlement Stage: In this stage, there is a lamina separator filter, in which all the sewage water is filtered and sludge settles down by gravity.
ETP plant is located at inside the hospital.
2. Incinerator
Waste disposal bio-degradable materials are being sent to incinerator for incineration. Designed capacity of incinerator plant is 50 Kg/hr. There are following processes for waste incineration-
a. Waste Loading: In this stage bio-degradable materials are loaded manually to the incinerator hearth for incineration.
b. Incineration Stage: In this process it achieves certain combustion efficiency, produces some quantity of flue gas and reduced the waste physically to between 3 to 15 % of its original weight/volume.
At last, the wastages are burn down from its present form to sterile ash and ash is disposed at ash pit tank.
Weight of the wastage which is being sent to incinerator on daily basis is 45-50 Kg/day.
Incinerator plant is located at the vicinity of hospital.
3. Bio-Gas Plant
Segregated food waste is being sent to the bio-gas plant for methane gas form & the gas formed is being
used in hospital kitchen. This plant is designed for treatment of 150 Kg of kitchen/food waste per day.
There are following processes for gas forming-
a. Shredding Process: Segregated food waste is brought to the sorting table, in which with water & shredded using shredder the food waste is converted into slurry form.
b. Digester Tank: In digester tank, the methane formation is done by hydrolysis cum acidification.
c. Neoprene rubber balloon: The biogas is collected in a neoprene rubber balloon, which is further compressed and can be used through modified burners for heating in canteen.
The bio-gas plant is located backside of hospital kitchen.
4. Autoclave & Shredder
This is intended for sterilization of materials in health services as well as in industry. The
hospital instruments like glass, plastic, leather, textiles and hot & cold liquids, syringes are being sent
to sterilizer for sterilization.
After disinfection, the material like syringes & needles are shredded and dumped into the water proof
deep ground pit.
The autoclave & shredder is located beside the hospital mortuary.
5. Solar Panel
Solar panel is installed in hospital kitchen and utilized for heating water. The designed
capacity of solar panel is 300 liters.
6. Safety and Security
Emergency evacuation ramp : Emergency evacuation ramp connected with all floor to facilitate emergency evacuation of patients and staff.
Fire hydrant system : Fire hydrants and smoke detectors covering the entire hospital.
