


Accident and Emergency
The Accident & Emergency Department caters to patients sustaining any form or severity of
primary injury, or suffering from any medical emergency, or sudden severe illness.
Also life threating conditions are treated in the A & E department viz. unconsciousness,
persistent chest pain, breathing difficulties, bleeding, burns or scars, allergic reactions, etc.
Beyond Out Patient Department service hours i.e 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m through night,
the A & E department has to cater to all sort of illness: emergency as well as routine.
It is manned by one Doctor in every shift along with 2 – 4 Nursing staff, one ward attendant and
one sweeper.
Almost 80% of the patients reporting to A & E department are treated and sent back home or to Out
Patient Departments, while around 20% are admitted to the relevant Indoor Patient Departments.
The facilities include 7 beds, a minor Operation Theatre complex and basic equipment used in Emergency Services.
The facility functions 24 hours X 365 days. Ambulance service is attached to the A & E department for transportation of patients referred to higher centers for management of head injury, acute myocardial infarction, burns, etc.
